Angela Casey

About

“I explore the human condition, vicariously reveling in the dark romance of risk and chance, then retreating, to find solace in a quiet place within the shadows of contemplation”. [1]

Angela Casey’s photographs delve into and investigate the psychic space created by the acute awareness of the fragility of life and the certainty of death, which tilts and swings with risk taking.

The works convey sensations with reference to the visual language of Memento Mori and Dutch Vanitas painting of the 17th century combined with contemporary social references including nihilism and abandonment.

“…to fear death in a novel, a short story, a film or an artwork is rapturous because of its distance from reality”. [2]
