King Island Arts & Cultural Centre

A gallery and studio located on the picturesque Currie Wharf

About

The King Island Arts & Cultural Centre is a small gallery and studio located in the picturesque Currie Wharf precinct. Displaying art and craft made predominantly by King Islanders, this local institution has been in operation for more than a decade and has become an essential stop for visitors looking to learn more about King Island.

Frequently changing exhibitions feature the work of several well established artists living on King Island as well as those of emerging artists and artisans all of whom are keen to express what they feel is unique about their island home.

The King Island Arts & Cultural Centre has a range of artworks and craft items for sale. Many are small enough for visitors to take back home as a souvenir of their stay while shipping can be arranged for larger items if required.

The Cultural Centre is a vibrant creative space which plays host to a wide variety of workshops and masterclasses aimed at visitors and locals alike. Details of upcoming workshops can be found on the centre’s Facebook page or by subscribing to their newsletter.

The Cultural Centre calendar is also packed with a variety of events ranging through auctions, puppetry, play readings and musical performances.

The artist-in-residency program is one of the most celebrated functions of the Cultural Centre. Visiting jewellers, writers, painters and musicians from all over Australia and overseas have stayed at the centre for weeks at a time while they work on their craft and get to know the local community.

The King Island Arts & Cultural Centre is a program of King Island Council. Entry is free and the local volunteers are all happy to share their knowledge, not only of the items on display, but also of what to do and where to go whilst on King Island. Please pop in, say hello and support local makers.
