Black Matter is a residency-based project for Australian and Chilean artists. It revisits the hypothesis of Gondwana peering into the elusive, dark nature of the unknown by retracing what connects place and identity and by extension, current cultural and environmental matters.
Origin (stage one) exhibits some outcomes from a nine-week residency in Chile by Tasmanian artists Julie Gough, Francisca Moenne and Robert O’Connor. These works result from a process of dialogue with the communities of Santiago, Chiloé Island and the Region of Magallanes, and culminate into a series of experimental cartographies that map unseen I-lands where the familiar and unfamiliar converge.
Black Matter is an ongoing project conceived and curated by Francisca Moenne in collaboration with Robert O’Connor.
