Hamley Productions is an independent theatre company, based in Hobart Tasmania, established in January 2016. Creative Director, Chris Hamley, and partner and Company Manager, Kath Chapman, each bring around 20 years experience working in community and professional theatre, aiming to create and produce high quality work.
The Company’s inaugural production, ‘Freud’s Last Session’ by Mark St. Germain, was performed by Chris Hamley and Launceston based director/performer Michael Edgar at the Theatre Royal Backspace in August 2016 and again at the Earl Arts Centre, Launceston, in April 2017.
Other past shows include an outdoor garden show, ‘Winnie the Pooh’, which performed to a sell-out season in April 2017, and two outdoor summer Shakespearean ‘mash-up’ productions, ‘A Midsummer’s Much Ado’, which will again be restaged in January 2019.
In February 2018 the company’s inaugural performance ensemble On Stage! commenced classes with a talented and enthusiastic group of 16-24 year olds under the tuition of Chris Hamley.
The company were invited back to the Earl Arts Centre as part of Theatre North’s 2018 program with ‘Alice’s Adventures Under Ground’ prior to Hobart’s June season at the Theatre Royal Backspace. In November 2018 the Company will stage Joanna Murray-Smith’s intriguing social satire, ‘The Gift’, at the Peacock Theatre, Salamanca.
