Bert Aperloo grew up in Holland, moved to South Africa and later migrated to Australia and initially trained as a draftsman. After several years in Melbourne he moved to Hobart and graduated with a Master of Fine Art and Design (printmaking) at the Tasmanian School of Art in 2010. He has had three solo exhibitions and been involved in several group exhibitions, he is currently the president of Hunter Island Press, an artist-run printmaking development facility.
His artworks are based on extensive research that links personal experiences with contemporary art perspectives and creates woodcut and dry-point prints that range from accurate monochromatic representations to colourful multi-layered abstracts of botanical images.
