Erin Amor is a young Tasmanian painter landscape who depicts global warming. Using geological time as her starting point she shows the remains of extinct creatures that lived on Earth before us as well as the electromagnetic fields of the earth are used by birds to navigate.
Erin’s latest practice tilts towards abstraction through oil paint “pours” that months later are formalised by brushwork once the sticky layers have hardened. Her experiments with timber panels and liquid oils have borne fruit in gorgeous transparencies that change a conventional viewpoint into one that could be from a satellite or drone. The sapphire and earth layers of her glazes flow and pool, evoking estuarine tides and the results of heavy rain flowing out to the ocean from an inland river.
