Jane Giblin

Jane Giblin’s work has always emphasised and involved the line, through drawing, pen & ink & wash and the development through etching and lithography print techniques. There is a strong connection of this line to the reality of working plein air, the direct relationship of the drawing process with models, and the studio. She has also used photography as a black and white vision that emphasises and dramatizes light, shadow and line.

Jane seeks out landscape to define sense of place, scale and interaction of cultural layers including the history lying before us , echoes of people and relationships, the use of lands through built shapes, farms, the animals, that all form patina to this visual. She has travelled extensively to experience landscape including Europe, UK, Iceland, Siberia through to Africa, China and South East Asia, then has allowed that depth to further inform her work again in the Tasmanian dialogue.

Since 2005 Giblin has had 8 solo exhibitions and was a finalist in national awards including The Outback, Glover, Whyalla, Muswellbrook, Alice, Cossack, Paddington, John Leslie Art and Hutchins prizes. In 2015, Jane was invited to participate in the Kedumba Drawing Prize and in 2014 her work gained first prize at the Burnie Regional Gallery Mancell Tasmanian Art Award. Her work is held in public collections including Burnie, Broken Hill and the Karratha Regional Galleries, Tyumen University collection, Irkutsk Art Gallery and various private collections nationally and internationally
