Kate Piekutowski

Explore themes of cultural identity, belonging and the meaning of 'homeland'

About

To Kate Piekutowski printmaking is a second language used to explore themes of cultural identity and the meaning of ‘homeland’, specific to her experience as a first-generation child of Polish migrants living in Tasmania.

Belonging is a term that can be employed infinitely. In its most generic form, it has often been associated with something or someone. However for Kate, it is what defines the connection between identity and place.

Kate’s beautifully rendered prints masterfully weave together images of birds, sewing accoutrements, colonial architecture and fashion, as she explores her cultural identity in a thoughtful and subtle way.

An emerging artist in her early 20’s, Kate shows great promise with work held in galleries in Sydney, Melbourne, Launceston and Hobart. She has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions and has undertaken residencies in both Greece and Italy.
