Keith Climpson

Keith likes to describe his works as “Ethereal Landscapes”

About

Keith Climpson is a painter of contemporary landscapes.  His work has often been described as being positioned somewhere between landscape, painterly abstraction, and expressionism.

He often works with unconventional materials such as old photographs over which he applies layers of acrylic, bitumen and oil glazes.  He uses this process of layering to create an illusionary sense of depth, light and space within his paintings, with elements of the original photographs still emerging in places.

Keith likes to describe his works as “Ethereal Landscapes” – not being totally objective or realistic but emanating from somewhere between reality, memory and imagination. The titles of his works reflect this ambiguity and are often short and non-descriptive, leaving the viewer to freely consider what they see within the image themselves.

Keith regularly exhibits his work throughout the state, as well as throughout Australia and Europe.  He has been a finalist in The Glover Prize for Landscape Painting and has being shortlisted for numerous other art awards.

His work is held in private collections throughout the world.
