Leonie Oakes is a multidisciplinary artist crossing photography, artists books and printmaking. Leonie graduated with a Master Research Degree from the University of Tasmania in 2009 where she was the recipient of a prestigious APA scholarship. Her work has been included in a variety of publications and ABC broadcasts. Leonie has also been the recipient of a variety of practice and teaching based national and state grants. These have included Hatched PICA, first prize in Glamorgan Spring Bay, Bernie wearable paper award and Alice Springs Red Hot Arts Natural Fibre Awards for her visual research and practice. Leonie is known for her printed paper dresses and photographic portraits exploring themes of the body, inherited text and fairy tale. She has explored themes of the body, inherited text and fairy tale. She has exhibited regularly nationally since 1999. Her work is included in National and international print folios and her work is included in public and private collections including Charles Sturt University Collection, State Library of Victoria and Artspace Mackay.
