Margot Baird is an internationally exhibited artist having had solo exhibitions in Singapore, Malaysia, USA, France and Australia. She has also been in many group exhibitions internationally and nationally. As a visual artist who has worked across a broad spectrum of mediums she has been a finalist in painting, photography, printmaking competitions including The Bay of Fires Art Prize 2014. Her background is in teaching and lecturing art and her work is in collections internationally including National Art Gallery Kuala Lumpur, Australian High Commission Singapore and the Cruthers Collection of Women’s Art in Perth, Western Australia.
Since moving to Tasmania in 2011, Margot has been depicting the Tasmanian landscape – symbolically rather than literally. The landscapes are constructed and deconstructed; detail is minimalized, abstracted and reconfigured. Her larger works on canvas are textural and exemplify the techniques of a painter who is also a printmaker, the multi layering and incising of the paint. Her work often combines a hard edge defined area either surrounded by or encompassing a very painterly area. Her work on aluminium combines painting, printmaking and photography, the outcomes being enriched by the reflective element of the material. Subjects are often crossed referenced between the works on canvas and aluminium. Subject matter is sometimes narrative, other times a moment in time, or an emotion in the form of a landscape.
Margot Baird is an internationally exhibited artist having had solo exhibitions in 4 continents in addition to copious group exhibitions nationally and internationally. Primarily a painter she has also worked extensively in mixed media, printmaking, ceramics, photography, mosaics, sculpture and photography. As well as teaching and lecturing Margot has worked professionally as an interior designer.
