“I had my first exhibition of paintings in 1973 – big abstract works, lyrical and ambiguous. Forty years later, with figurative and stylized imagery creeping in from everywhere, I still approach my work with an intuitive abstractionist’s manner. Colour and its associated dramas are fundamental to my way of seeing the world I paint. Bacon, Turner, Kitaj, Fred Williams all have inspired my work at various times of gestation, like the ever-changing nature of the sea, the land and sky with all their mysteries and stories told and yet to be discovered.”
