Patricia Giles

A dedicated painter, Patricia Giles is a Tasmanian artist who has pursued representation of the wilds, highlands and coast. Her passion to record experiences of these often remote and unstructured regions, the colour of tarns or Mt Wellington bushlands demands understanding of particular light, landscape profiles and the moods of sudden and dramatic weather. For many years a painting companion to groups such as The Sunday Painters, and contemporaries such as Harry Buckie, Carington Smith and her long term association with Max Angus, have gained her a special place in the recording of her Tasmanian land. Recent years have seen her highlight the element of birds and flower motifs within a pictorial scene.
