Inka gallery member Patricia Martin recently trained in printmaking at the Tasmanian College of the Arts at the University of Tasmania, where she specialised in etching and linocut techniques.
Patricia’s subject-matter is diverse, ranging from nostalgic scenes of summertimes past spent at the ‘Ozzie Beach’, to local marine creatures and structures, to prints portraying her love of the Tasmanian bush and its uniquely beautiful, endemic fauna. Patricia’s ‘bush critters’ prints show quolls, wombats, echidnas, freshwater-crayfish and native birds, each sensitively presented in its natural bush habitat. The delicately rendered figures are etched in fine lines and then sensitively highlighted in watercolour or pastels. Her multiple-plate linocut prints are inked in more vivid colours to give dramatic emphasis to species’ special status as vulnerable and/or endangered.
