Paul Boam is a highly articulate and distinguished artist, studying at Nottingham and Leeds Colleges of Art, arriving Australia 1964, he has amassed a career as a painter and lecturer, including Tasmanian School of Art for many years. His work is represented in many state and regional galleries, as well as various corporate collections such as Artbank , Reserve Bank, West LB Landesbank, Hong Kong.
His geometric abstract squares within squares with centralised leaf-shaped motifs from early works gradually incorporated more representation and sensitivity to the bush and local landscape, incorporating drawing, a shift in colour palette to greens, pinks and blues, and representation of the drama of light filtered within the landscape and through the trees.
Boam’s current exhibition titled “Journey”: from painting, through drawing into collage.
“This exhibition shows how the demands and frustrations of cancer have changed my work over a period of 5 years. How working at my easel gradually became impossible, the move towards more drawing, and how collage has enabled me to keep exploring ideas.”
