Keep yourself busy with a Creative Exchange workshop from Kickstart Arts

Creative Exchange is a program of cool and interesting creative workshops


Kickstart Arts is an independents arts organisation based in Hobart working across the state to create multi-arts projects with communities. The Kickstart Arts Centre is a vibrant multicultural community hub with lots of ongoing community events and opportunities for diverse cultural interchange through music, food, story sharing events and a gallery and installation spaces.

Kickstart also provide a range of fantastic workshop opportunities through the Creative Exchange program with workshops filmmaking, writing, dance, installation art, hip hop and more.

There are heaps of great workshops coming up at the Kickstart Arts Centre in New Town, here’s a taster of what’s on offer.

During a two hour Site-Specific Performance workshop with Kelly Drummond Cawthon you’ll be exploring the creative process through movement making and space creating and learning how to apply these movement skills to any environment. The workshop will be held on the 23 August from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, cost: $10.00.

Keep your brain and body active and stimulate those neural connections by learning how to juggle. Juggling for the Brain will give you a skill for life and lots of simple exercises and tips for keeping the grey matter in top condition. The workshop is 6 September, 6:30 – 7:30 pm, cost: $10.00.

Woven Objects is a fascinating workshop that looks into the history, stories and techniques of weaving that have been used across different cultures and contexts for centuries. This workshop is suitable for any level of interest or experience and will be held on 16 September from 6:30 – 8:30 pm, cost: $30.00.

If you are interested in learning the basics of Wet Plate Photography, this introductory workshop is a must. During this workshop you’ll learn a brief history about the wet plate process and make your own tintype photograph. All materials will be supplied. The workshop will be held on 11 September, 10:00 am – 5:00 pm, cost: $100.

For something a little bit different you’re invited behind the scenes to discover the world of Video DJ-ing during the  Intro to VJ-ing workshop. Lead by Cary Littleford you will learn about a variety of VJ systems, technical equipment, software and how the industry works lead with real life examples. The workshop will be held on 13 September from 6:30 – 9:00 pm, $30.00.

Everyone can draw! Even you… the Dare to Draw workshop will guide you through new and innovative ways to explore drawing. It will be held on 18 October, 6:30 – 8:30 pm, cost: $30 + $5 materials.
