Contemporary Art Tasmania

Innovative, energetic and experimental visual art exhibitions.

About

Contemporary Art Tasmania is a member based organisation, representing and supporting contemporary artists in Tasmania. They have an annual exhibition program that presents a program of high quality, experimental visual arts exhibitions. The program is characterised by innovation and energy assisted by the high level of professional support they offer exhibitors including publications support.

Contemporary Art Tasmania also hosts public dialogue initiatives designed to foster audience engagement with new and experimental visual culture through their public program. They present a range of special events developed to encourage debate, dialogue and thinking around contemporary art ideas and practice. The program can take the form of artist talks, discussion events, conferences, screenings, symposium, workshops and project specific events. There are around twelve events presented annually, which are often associated with the gallery program and are open to the public, artists and curators.

In addition to its exhibition and public programs, Contemporary Art Tasmania has four artist studios that are available by application to Contemporary Art Tasmania Members for a twelve-month period. They also offer a curatorial mentorship program, a industry access and critical engagement program called SHOTGUN (presented with Detached Cultural Organisation) and administer an Exhibition Development Fund (EDF).

The majority of the exhibition program takes place in the Contemporary Art Tasmania gallery in North Hobart with touring and off-site exhibitions presented in other venues around the state and nationally.
