Salamanca Arts Centre

a major Hobart arts hub

About

Salamanca Arts Centre (SAC) is a major arts hub in Hobart and an integral part of the State’s arts and creative industries infrastructure. It is located on Salamanca Place in historic sandstone warehouses that house visual and performing arts practitioners, craft and design professionals, film companies, galleries, craft and design shops and retail outlets, arts organisations and public spaces.

The centre has a very special place in history and hearts of many Tasmanians. It was established in 1976 after the State Government leased the buildings to the Community and Art Centre Foundation who were group of passionate arts advocates lead by the visionary Claudio Alcorso. The Foundation repaired and maintained the dilapidated buildings and have managed and encouraged its use by arts organisations and artists for a diverse range of arts programs and events.

Salamanca Arts Centre is rich in history and alive with contemporary arts experiences, exhibitions, music and theatre performances, readings, festivals, forums and workshops.
