Zephyr is a large scale artwork by Josh Foley for Don College, Devonport.
Josh painted directly onto 59 panels in his studio in Launceston. The panels were then installed like a giant jigsaw to cover the 13 m high external lift shaft in the courtyard area at Don College. The design has a strong sense of landscape and incorporates native flowers found in the local area, painted on an abstract background creating an overall 3D effect. The background references wind currents spiralling up across the land from the sea.
Josh Foley holds a Bachelor of Contemporary Art (Hons) from the University of Tasmania. He has exhibited extensively throughout Australia and has received a number of prestigious awards, grants and residencies. His work is held in many public and private collections throughout Australia, notably, in the collection of the Queen Victoria Museum & Art Gallery. In 2011 he won The John Glover Prize, for a Tasmanian landscape.
