Toby Muir Wilson is one of Tasmania’s finest master craftsmen and designer working in wood.
He grew up in Forest, a tiny settlement near Stanley in the north west of Tasmania, and was always interested in wood and fine wood species. He trained with Robert Ingham and Michael Bates at the John Makepeace School for Wood Design in Southern England for two years in the late 1970s. He returned to Forest where he established his home and studio.
He has produced furniture and wood products for the last 40 years for commissions or retail sale. He has exhibited throughout Australia and is represented in many national collections. The strength of his work is the integration of narrative-based design and hand skills.
Toby’s studio is open to visitors but please call first to make an appointment.
