Which books are eligible for the 2019 Premier’s Literary Prizes?
Books published between 1 April 2017 and 30 April 2019 are eligible for entry for the Margaret Scott Prize and the Tasmania Book Prize.

How are entries judged?
Entries to the Premier’s Literary Prizes are assessed by a panel of independent judges.
Judges are appointed by the Book Prizes Advisory Committee.
What genres are eligible for the prizes?
Writing in all genres are eligible for the Premier’s Literary Prizes. Entries may include works of non-fiction or fiction for adults or children, graphic novels, work of poetry or playscripts.
I am submitting a poetry collection for the University of Tasmania Prize. If some of the poems have been published in journals, can I still enter?
If submitting a collection, no more than 20 per cent of stories or poems can have been individually published in reputable journals, magazines or publications.
When are entries longlisted and shortlisted?
Only the Tasmania Book Prize and Margaret Scott Prize have books longlisted.
The independent judges will select up to 10 books to longlist. This will be announced in September 2019.
A final shortlist of five books for the Tasmania Book Prize and Margaret Scott Prize will be announced in October 2019.
When are winners announced?
The winners of the prizes will be announced in December 2019.
Where do I send copies of my book?
The first step is to apply online by submitting a nomination form.
Once you’ve applied online you will receive a confirmation email with the following details:
To complete your entry you must print a copy of the attached receipt and submit it with four copies of the nominated book:
- by hand – Arts Tasmania, 4 Salamanca Place, Hobart, between 9 am and 5 pm weekdays, no later than 29 June 2019, or
- by post – Arts Tasmania, GPO Box 536, Hobart TAS 7001, postmarked on or before 29 June 2019.
Please note that books will only be accepted once an online nomination form has been submitted.
Can I submit multiple entries to the University of Tasmania Prize?
There is no limit to the number of manuscripts you can enter, but each manuscript will require a separate entry form and payment.
How many books do I need to provide if I enter for both the Tasmania Book Prize and Margaret Scott Prize?
Only four copies of the nominated title are required if entering for both the Tasmania Book Prize and Margaret Scott Prize.
