Paintings by Mathew Simms

Despard is proud to present the first solo show of Tasmanian artist Mathew Simms. In an age of instant news and communication, it is refreshing to encounter an artist’s ‘traditional’ approach to painting, writing and craft, that takes us back to another time where contemplation was an important part of the creative process.

Mathew has an unique colour palette and a natural sense of composition, combined with his draftsmanship, some observers of his paintings suggest the images to the 19th Century French impressionists.
