A Year of Fridays

“These paintings come from weekly painting trips to the coast and occasionally to the country, usually with my friends Steve Lees and Peter Gouldthorpe, following in the tradition of plein air painting. Some, but not all, are further developed in the studio. The interiors developed from a similar approach when the weather kept me indoors. These paintings rely on an immediate response to the subject where the goal is to create a painting rather than a picture. As such I am always pleased to see an original brush stroke in a “finished” work.” Jock Young, 2016.
