Conversations with the Human Form

Works by Emerging Artist Zoe Lovell

Emerging Tasmanian Artist Zoe Lovell studies the human form and how, through movement and body language, it is used as a tool to communicate.

Through movement and gestures, we are able to communicate our thoughts and feelings without the use of speech. By the way we present ourselves through body language, we are able to indicate the relationships we have with our surroundings, whether they’re spaces or other people. Through body language, we are able to understand and respond to the status of other people. Our bodies are more than just flesh and bone that carry out tasks. Rather, they are also vessels used by our minds to communicate. Zoe Lovell has created a series of studies on the human form which explore how the body is used as a tool to communicate. Her aim has been to create depictions of the human form that allow the viewer to make sense of what emotions are being presented, without having to express with words or facial expressions.
