Critical Points

Paul Murphy

Stressing a deviation amongst mineral and synthetic materials, Critical Points is a response to understanding site. Referencing organic rock formations of Cataract Gorge, the clay sculptures are a response the creation of place – from its from its endogenic creation to its current iconic and cultural significance

Paul Murphy is an early-career artist based in Northern Tasmania with an interest in working with the notion of environmental change; more specifically the interplay between the man-made vs. natural and the subsequent results of this as we experience and consider the future. Paul has exhibited in Tasmania, Victoria and New Zealand and well as regularly participating in festivals and events including MONA FOMA, Junction, Lorne Sculpture Biennale, Inner Varnkia, Rose Quartz Art & Music Festival and Artentwine. His work is owned in private collections throughout Australia.

In 2018 Paul was awarded The North-East Tasmania Bakhap Award for Sculpture.
