Dane Chisholm: Altered View

New paintings and drawings by the East Coast artist.

In this exhibition Dane utilises a whimsical and playful approach to his subject matter.

Bold graphic works are played against pared-back black and white drawings. All reference the world around him- his East Coast home by the sea and the surrounding creatures and landscapes. Dane’s deep visual and spiritual connection to place, as well as his stylistic influences are derived in part from his paternal Tasmanian Aboriginal ancestry.

The artist’s line-work and use of pattern owe much to the artistic legacy of Indigenous Australian art.

The colour, quirk and naivety also suggest influences from Reg Mombasa and Keith Haring, to the loose flowing landscape lines of John Olsen.

Opening night: Friday 6 June at 5:30 pm with guest speaker, author James Dryburgh. All welcome.
