Design Tasmania Award 10 Years

About

The Design Tasmania Award is celebrating its 10th year of providing a platform for statewide designers to launch their wares nationally and in some cases internationally. This exhibition showcases all of the Design Tasmania Award winners with each design telling the story of the Awards, from its humble beginning through to the evolution of Tasmania’s most prestigious design award recognising and promoting excellence in design and innovation.

The awards provide a platform for emerging, established and professional designers, and act to inspire creative and sophisticated ideas. They continue to demonstrate the important contribution design makes to our lives by showcasing the best new products created in Tasmania.

Design Tasmania has a focus on encouraging, supporting and promoting craftsmanship in the design community for 40 years. The awards provide a platform for emerging, established and professional designers, and act to inspire creative and sophisticated ideas, continually demonstrating the important contribution design makes to our lives.

This milestone celebration will display over 18 pieces, previously nominated to represent Tasmania’s emerging and established talent in the Design Tasmania Award. Design Tasmania annually invites new judges, to join veterans Phillip Drury, Director of Clemenger and Laura McCusker, Laura McCusker Design to select the outstanding designs.

Previously invited judges consist of Zoe Veness, Object Design Lecturer UTAS, Terri Winter, co-founder and managing director, top3 by design, Pippa Dickson, Chair Design Tasmania, Tamsin O’Neill, Co-Owner and Editor of Green Magazine.

The past 10 years the Award have called for works that can be produced for a retail environment. It challenges design to consider a range of different end-users to go beyond materiality + function, to engage the wonder and delight in the world and how they’re designs can make a difference to people’s lives.

The exhibition will feature designs by David Mayhew, Richard Levett, Chris Berndt, Adam Aberle, Anita Dineen, Linda Van Niekerk, Mark Bishop, Nathan Freeman, Stuart Williams, Indeco, Brandon Lee, Jamie Dobbs, Jye Edwards, Mabel Design, Scott Van Tuil, Simon Ancher, Megan Perkins and Geoff Marshall.
