A formal investigation of edge, surface and structure.
“I have always been excited by the act of making an artwork, the processes, the manipulation of materials and the scope this provides. Part of my ongoing technique has been to conceal, then reveal – that is to say layering, scraping back, adding again, then erasure – a hint of death and regeneration. Thus my work often has a weathered appearance, a suggestion of erosion and displacement, enclosure, then disclosure, somewhat like the archaeologist’s process in attempting to uncover what lies beneath. So, my work is often marked by a reductionist tendency; my palette is restricted, often monochromatic and my forms have become increasingly geometric – together, a formal investigation of edge, surface and structure.” Ryllton Viney, 2018.
