Images of Tasmania 19

The 19th annual exhibition of 42 artists with links to the Tasmanian College of the Arts in its various incarnations.

About

Traditionally, Images of Tasmania has represented ten decades since Max Angus was mentored at the then art school in the late 1920s and trained in the 30s and 40s; other participants represent the 50s till now, including recent and current graduates. The exhibition aims to create a high standard with bodies of work by serious art practitioners staging a series of mini exhibitions representing a wide range of approaches across many disciplines – painting, drawing, glass, ceramics, printmaking, photography, digital imagery, sculpture, mixed media, jewellery, furniture, artists’ books, etc.

A major aim is to promote visual literacy in the wider viewing community and to rely solely on social capital where artists’ expertise covers all procedural requirements. The exhibition is entirely self-funded – without recourse to external sponsorship or advertising.

Images of Tasmania flourishes today because it is annually refreshed and infused with ‘new blood’ drawn mainly from the gene pool of art school graduates. The expertise, experience and participation of preceding generations of Tasmanian art graduates and associates provide continuity and stability for the enterprise. Artists are invited to show new work on the basis of the demonstrated quality of their work, professional training, commitment to practice and contribution to the diversity of the exhibition. Artists participate in the communal process of hanging and administering the exhibition.
