Emerging Tasmanian jeweller and artist Olivia Hickey presents her first solo exhibition of jewellery, photography, printmaking and sculpture. An exploration of the sense of place that she developed after spending a winter living in a small hut on a Wilderness Residency, nestled amongst the King Billy Pines at Cradle Mountain.
To get to know a place deeply I need to walk alone; to discover the hidden moments and to hear the stories embedded in the landscape. I hear the rocks move, see the glaciers grow and retreat, watch the evolution of plants, acknowledge the old people walking the land, sense the early explorers, witness those striving to preserve this place and I feel its vulnerability. As time passes and my senses attune to my surroundings I slow down. It is then that I can hear all the quiet whispers join together to become the song of the land.
