An exhibition that explores the processes of migration, displacement and discovery using a mixture of fabric models, large scale photography, mapping, ceramics, storytelling and mosaics.
Using monster creations, In the Shadows forms a partly autobiographical depiction of movement from Hobart to Cradle Mountain by Tasmanian artist Donna Ritchie. Exploring the processes of migration, displacement and discovery entwined with the search for belonging and home Donna invites us to follow the journey of allegorical monsters and their stories.
Donna Ritchie often uses nostalgic triggers such as tongue twisters, toys, generic monster shapes along with elements of place in her art practice. She is concerned with social, environment, economic and political changes. She is broad in her use of mediums to convey her concerns, using mosaic, photography, ceramics, acrylic, light sources and written text.
