Internal Dialogue / External Monologue

Showcasing artwork by eight graduating students from the Tasmanian College of Art, University of Tasmania.

About

This exhibition showcases the artwork of eight graduating students from the Tasmanian College of Art, University of Tasmania.

The content and materials of the artworks are diverse but they have been brought together in this exhibition under a thematic heading which conveys an enduringly difficult task for any artist. There is always conflict between the conversations that the maker has as they wrangle ideas, concepts, feelings (the internal dialogue) and then find the singular material form or the right artwork to express those ideas (the external monologue). The ways that this conflict is resolved lends each artwork its unique identity. The works in the exhibition go right to the heart of this, exploring the artists take on the expression of inner thoughts and extending this to other subjects and to other people. How our minds and bodies – our identity – connive to show others just what it is that we mean is, at the end of the day, a concern for all of us.

Artists: Linda Crispin, Mia Donnet-Jones, Sabrina Evans, Eleanor MorganEva NilssenToby Riseley, Shireen Taweel, and Milly Yencken.
