Island to Island

An exhibition of paintings and prints by Robyn Harman.

Robyn Harman‘s artistic practice reflects the striking imagery of island landforms around Tasmania.
Her works, however, are far from representational landscapes.

“My imagery is sourced from water and coastal landforms that I’ve photographed at a number of locations around Tasmania. I have explored ideas of remoteness and wilderness, of memories and myths. I am interested in the way landscape is viewed; as ancient and tracked with stories, as an antipodean ideal, as terrain refracted by abstraction and digitisation. Digital imagery can bring us closer to a wilderness we may never experience – we feel a strong connection, but life in the Anthropocene carries a sense of impermanence and loss; a longing for what once was. Sea levels change, wave action does the work of erosion, the landscape shifts beneath the coordinates we apply. As records are broken and the water inches higher, rocky outcrops bear witness.”
