Within

Joanna Gair is a local visual artist known internationally for her experimental handmade papers. In addition to paper, her exhibition Within, employs drawing and painting techniques to unveil personal responses to her father’s recent demise. Symbols of grief and memory persist, while watermarks penetrate deeply in to the hand-made papers as they float in purpose-built light boxes to reveal the internal workings of the paper itself. The paintings on canvas reveal a multitude of layers to excavate the images contained within, and ultimately draw the viewer in, to discover the complexities of these surfaces.
