About
This exhibition explores the transient nature of culture and its importance in Western society through the historic medium of etching. With continued research on Milan Kundera’s novel ‘The Incredible Lightness of Being’, Kate Piekutowski’s aim has been to use a philosophical approach in order to recreate a romanticised depiction of La Belle Epoch and the Parisienne arcadia. Using the decadence of this era in juxtaposition to European folk-lore and peasant culture, this exhibition will uncover historical post-war emotion and connection to place. It will explore how we develop and reveal new forms of identity within the ephemeral qualities of belonging.
