Ripples in the Red Sand

An exhibition of contemporary sculpture by Henrietta Norris.

About

“You can experience the arid country of central Australia on many levels. It has worlds within worlds; from a vast emptiness dwarfing our tiny human selves, to the complex microcosms of birds, insects and lizards. It is also a strikingly beautiful landscape of strong patterns, like the dots of soft grey spinifex laid out on the rich terracotta reds of the soil. These are the elements that stay with me, that I want to express in my work.”
– Henrietta Norris

The hand-sculpted forms are reflective of the structures of the land, such as the round hollow of a waterhole or ripples in sand and stone from winds new and vastly old. Henrietta Norris then uses physical imprinting and glazes to add the colours and textures of those environments.
