Over 1 million negatives are being added to the Burnie Regional Museum’s enviable photographic collection through a donation by the Fairfax Media Group and The Advocate newspaper.
These negatives form an invaluable social history record and a pictorial narrative of our region’s history from 1953 to 2000.
The Burnie Regional Art Gallery is exhibiting a selection of images from this exciting collection that tells particular stories from each of the decades from 1953-2000.
The exhibition at BRAG has been curated by one of The Advocate’s former photographers, Grant Wells.
The exhibition at the Burnie Regional Museum is focusing on the history of photography as well as the history of The Advocate.
The negatives will be placed in the Burnie Regional Museum’s newly-built world-standard archival freezer store. This will stop the vinegar disease that has developed and preserve the collection for the future.
