The Devil’s Diorama

Heath Holden

The Devil’s Diorama showcases the extensive personal project of Tasmanian Photographer Heath Holden to capture the life of the elusive and endangered Tasmanian devil, (Sarcophilus harrisii).

Starting in 2012, this project has become an obsession for Heath who continues to fine tune his camera trapping techniques, using infrared technology in the devil’s natural habitat, to produce cinematic scenes of nature. Work from this project has been published nationally and internationally, including in National Geographic Magazine in the Canon Global campaign Wildlife As Canon Sees It. Now, in The Devil’s Diorama, Heath presents his own favourite images from this collection taking us into the world of this Tasmanian icon as it has never been seen before.

Heath Holden is a Tasmanian photographer/photojournalist who has been working full-time since 2007 shooting a healthy variety of assignments and projects for editorial, commercial and conservation purposes.

Having many different interests Heath has always struggled to attach a specialty tag to his work. The projects he warms to most include photojournalism and photographing real life subjects with a purpose, whether it is natural history or cultural and social documentary, projects you can dig into and create some narrative and understanding.

Currently Heath is working in Doha, Qatar in the Middle East documenting the progress towards the 2022 FIFA World Cup, the first to be hosted in the Arab world. Over the past decade he has photographed for the Singapore Zoo, photographed and crewed in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race and regularly cover features for magazines, newspapers and wire services keeping a healthy balance between personal and commissioned work, constantly searching for the next important picture or looking for the next exciting assignment.
