To Silence – “For me there are several factors important in producing work: careful preparation of canvas, harmony in composition, satisfactory drawing and balance of colour; all are intended. However, by far the most important is the seeking of silence. Hearing the sound of brush on canvas is a constant goal and silence my subject for each work. An elusive state to enter, one full of that which is rich and is greatly enjoyed. If some of this experience is carried to the viewer, it is the transfer of beauty, a substance arising beyond the practitioner and the potential for all ‘making’.” DL
An inviting exhibition of pictures painted between mid 2016 through August 2017. For those who are familiar with Lake’s work, ‘To Silence’ will enthuse and show refinement of his style. For those unfamiliar, here is an opportunity to enjoy carefully crafted, rich work which earns its reputation as being ‘quite different to other paintings’.
