Kato Kuniko won praise for her performance of Bach’s G minor violin sonata at the 1995 Leigh Howard Stevens International Marimba Competition, particularly for her lack of marimba rolls in the Adagio. Throughout her 2016 series of concerts (‘Reich at 80’ and ‘Bach To Contemporary Music’) Kuniko has performed works from the new album giving fans worldwide a chance to hear these works live.
Her astonishing virtuosity, exquisite musical insight and expressive yet elegant performance style continues to attract not only audiences, but established conductors and composers too. She is renowned for her flawless technique when playing both keyboard and percussion instruments, which blends seamlessly with her profound musical intelligence.
Since becoming a percussion soloist, Rebonds is a piece that Kuniko has been playing and performing throughout her entire career. After hearing this performance of Xenakis’ popular piece, renowned percussionist Sylvio Gualda congratulated KUNIKO on her ‘marvellous’ interpretation. NPR Music also named Rebonds B as one of its ‘Favourite Songs of 2015’ stating: ‘Japanese percussionist Kuniko Kato savors the hypnotic groove in the Greek composer’s uniquely intense aesthetic’.
