Oz Jazz Small Big Band

12 piece jazz extravaganza playing all Australian compositions

About

Presented by the University of Tasmania

The Oz Jazz Small Big Band is the latest and greatest from the UTas Conservatorium

Featuring 12 of Tassie’s finest, this rip-snorting, ragtag bunch of young maestri will be blazing their way through a selection of exclusively Australian repertoire… a bunch of gems from the pens of Mike Nock (one of the godfathers of Australian jazz), Tim Wilson, Matt Boden; and also featuring compositions by several members of the band… TBA on the night!

Don’t be perturbed by the name… this evening of music making madness will comprise everything from straight-up-and-down hard swing, through blast beats, crazy distorted slide guitar acrobatics, screeching reeds and brass, phat beats, whacky time signatures, musical games + shouting, aleatoric jaunts (look it up), and plenty of good times.

You could miss this gig, but you’d be kicking yourself into the middle of last week if you did.  Be there!
