Presented by Salamanca Arts Centre as part of the JAZZAMANCA Autumn Series.
Bob Sedergreen | Gareth Hill | Ted Vining |
with special guest Alistair Dobson
Ted Vining has been playing drums in modern jazz bands since the late 1950s.
In 1970 he formed a partnership with pianist Bob Sedergreen and bassist Barry Buckley, which lasted a phenomenal 37 years until Barry’s death in 2006.
Current bass player, Gareth Hill, has filled the gap beautifully and contributes enormously to the distinctive sound of the trio, a sound heavily and delightfully dominated by the pianistic artistry of the great Bob Sedergreen.
Ted is renowned as perhaps the most assertive, hardest swinging drummer in Australian jazz. His style is based on idols such as ‘Philly’ Joe Jones, Art Blakey, Elvin Jones and Australia’s Stewart Speer.
For this performance the Trio will be joined by one of Tasmania’s finest saxophone players – Alistair Dobson.

JAZZAMANCA Autumn Series
Still riding high from Salamanca Arts Centre’s inaugural Jazzamanca Festival in March 2020 we’ve decided to invite you back into the room. This time it’s a little different with a series of live performances to a limited audience in accordance with current Covid-19 restrictions. We’ve decided to space each performance, occurring on a monthly basis across Spring.
Calling the Founders Room home, you can be rest assured that these intimate curated performances are not to be missed and will be fondly remembered as getting us all back in the room.
Each performance has been curated by the one and only, Australian Jazz legend Mr Ted Vining who promises to bring you the creme of the Tasmanian live Jazz community. Jazz flows through Ted’s veins and it’s all he talks about, so trust us when we say, this cat knows his stuff.
