About
Allegri Ensemble, directed by Andrew Bainbridge
Commonly referred to as his ‘Vespers’, Rachmaninoff’s music for the All-Night Vigil service of the Russian Orthodox Church was written in 1910. The All-Night Vigil Service comprises the Orthodox office of ‘Vespers’ followed by that of ‘Matins’ and ‘The First Hour’ and is celebrated on the eve of the great feasts. In modern practice, the service does not generally last all night but rather three hours, of which only 1 hour is music. Please join us for this one hour musical performance.
