Hot on the heels of their successful tour of Japan, Mature Artists Dance Experience (MADE) presents a double bill of new contemporary dance works.
MADE is one of Australia’s leading companies in the field of dance for older artists. MADE’s work is renowned for being visually surprising, thoughtful, witty and inspiring. MADE questions issues of visibility, power, sex, identity, image, age, and the older female body.
MADE regularly collaborates with nationally and internationally acclaimed choreographers and designers. This new, vibrant double bill is no exception.
MADE TO LAST, created by one of the UK’s most iconic artists, ‘the grand dame of anarchic dance’, Liz Aggiss. Choreographer, film maker and larger-than-life performer, Liz Aggiss is the winner of multiple awards internationally, and celebrated by several European Universities with Honorary Doctorates. She is a fiery mature artist whose work over five decades has challenged conventional ideas of female sexuality and beauty, and challenges ‘the social mores that pigeon-hole women of all ages.’
Liz has created a work that is particularly timely in light of the globally ageing population. Society increasingly recognises and values the fundamental contribution mature adults make. Fierce and funny, MADE TO LAST revels in the legacy, capacity and endurance of mature women.
HandMADE is a new work by Tasmanian dance maker Emma Porteus. Emma’s work has reached far beyond Tasmania, embracing the globe from South Africa to Finland. In this new work, Emma draws that global perspective in tight, with a work that focuses on the way we experience the world through the bodies we inhabit.
Living in a throw-away culture, MADE is proud to create this double bill of boutique dance – durable, high-quality, sustainable – handmade, and made to last.
