This workshop will look at how to use real experiences as the basis for a fiction. Taking real events, whether that be a family story or a banal happening in everyday life you can consider the ways in which fiction can manipulate the facts of an event in order to explore a more pressing emotional truth.

How does fiction spring from true encounters? In what ways might biographical truth form the foundation of a novel or short story? What does it mean for real-life to have a fictional counterpart?

The class will explore the relationship between truth and fiction through a series of exercises to assist you to think about the overall structure and focus of your creative project.
