Wood Carving Workshop at Kickstart Arts

Carve a project in wood of your own creation with guidance from a local master sculptor.

Welcome to Kickstart Arts’ Creative Exchange: Workshops in Everything

Title: Wood Carving Workshop

Description: You will be given opportunity to take on your own project based on your previous experience, using examples of a variety of different carving projects as starting points to help you design your own carved wood creation.

If you have no wood carving experience, don’t despair!  You will instead be provided with sample carvings and exercises to help you get started with the basics of wood carving.

During the day you will be shown the importance of keeping tools super sharp, systems for holding your project fixed to a bench to enable safe and efficient carving, and how to use quick marquette clay sculpturing to reference while carving.  You will have the opportunity to try out a wide variety of tools and to choose a project to suit the time and equipment available to you on the day.

Everything will be provided.

For complete beginners this will serve as an introduction to wood carving, while participants with carving experience will gain a starting point for a project that will require further carving at home.Kickstart Arts hope to offer follow up carving workshops in 2020.

Optional: buy a carving knife when you book your ticket, or borrow one on the day.

What you’ll get:

  • Wood, carving tools and clamps to use during the workshop

  • Take home your wooden carving to continue carving if you have the tools to do so
